The Road to Fraser's Hill

Why go to Fraser's Hill instead of Genting Highlands for your holiday? This blog will show you in stages of posting over time why you should get away from the casino, theme parks and shops for a change and spend quality time with nature. Where is Fraser's Hill? It is a hill resort that can be easily acessed by car or bus from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. For me it was a great driving holiday with my husband over four days with three nights spent in Fraser's Hill. Click on the photo below to read more about Fraser's Hill.

From Kuala Lumpur, we headed for the highway towards Ipoh turning of at Rawang to make our way to Kubu Bahru at the foot of Fraser's Hill. If you do not drive, there is a bus that takes you up to Fraser's Hill from there. When you see a railway station called Serendah, you are about 9 km from Kubu Bahru.

The scenery became more pleasant once we left the small towns behind.Moving up from sea level to higher ground we were greeted by these lovely contrasts in colour and form in the approaching landscape.

An unexpected turn led us to this small dam, beside which was a small park where we took a break to take in the serene beauty of the mountains around us.

On our way again, I just could not resist taking these photos from the car.

This bridge dates back to the days when the British ruled. Today, it is a reminder of that past like its larger cousins across the Singapore River.

From this point up to Fraser's Hill, the road snakes around in sharp bends almost every 100 meters. I am just so thankful that I do not suffer from motion sickness.

Gigantic ferns and bamboos were the common vegetagion on the hill slopes. It can be worrying to come across landslides even though they have been contained. But then, if we worry about these things all the time, we would never venture beyond Genting Highlands. Finally, we know that we were just minutes away from our accommodation.

When we reached the Fraser's Hill town we took a wrong turn and almost took a one-way road that led down the hill. Imagine if we had done that, we would have to find our way back to the starting point at the foot of Fraser's Hill and start the climb all over again. Coming up in parts as and when I find the time to post:
